At a chartered hall of the Corporation held yesterday, Mr. Alderman Newcomb was nominated to fill, for the second time, the office of Chief Magistrate for this borough.
Committed to gaol at Boston, John Francis, of Langtoft, laboring banker, charged with stealing, from the Green Dragon yard, five couple of fowls, the property of a dealer named Fordham, Spilsby.

Norton v. Himself and Wife
We understand these extraordinary proceedings (which are certainly of a very novel nature) were most liberally taken up and defended Mr. Redifer, of this place, on the part of Mrs. Norton and her infant child, who were turned adrift, without friend to assist her, or to advance a shilling to her defence, —pending which, however, an order of court was obtained for the payment of alimony until the result should be known. The cause is now, after three hearings, finally decided her favor: and under the will of Mr. Norton's late father, the child which was sought to be bastardized will at the death of Mr. Norton become entitled to a very fine landed estate at Langtoft, in this county, worth about 1000l. a year; and the promoters of this suit will be left to reflect upon themselves for their own folly, and the vast expense they have occasioned to Mr. Norton, who to gratify them was weak enough to have his name and character so shamefully exposed and set all the public newspapers in the kingdom.
